The towers of Paine, Patagonia, Chile
At the end of a circumnavigation of the Towers of Paine, Chile I was hiking in a gulch when I noticed the light glowing on the fringes of the clouds above me. I dropped my pack, grabbed my tripod and ran to the top of a nearby hill just in time to snap four or five shots of the mountains reflecting the ebbing rays of the sun.

The northern-most volcano in the Cascade Range, Mt. Baker is skirted with gentle, undulating glaciers around its symmetrical base. This photograph was shot on a cold, clear March morning from my tent on Artist Point.
Huascaran Peak, Peru
Clad in Ice and Granite the highest mountain in Peru is Nevado Huascaran. The summit is a strange juxtaposition of extreme environments. To the east is the Amazon rain forest. Westward you look on one of the driest deserts in the world stretching right to the Pacific Ocean. On top, you're standing on a storm battered 22,200' foot ice-covered summit.

Granite, Ice and Clouds mix to make up one of the most dramatic ranges in the world, the Cordilliara Huyhuash. As the evening sun dipped, I captured the moon rising behind the peaks.
Satan Peak, Canada
To capture the best light photographers wake at those unimaginable hours where darkness and cold scream at you to return to the tranquility of your sleep. It was 4 am when I slipped out of the relative comfort of my sleeping bag to photograph Satan Peak in Canada's Coast Range. I was rewarded as the sun played on the back of the elongated summit.
